A recent study by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) highlights the increasing role of digital technologies in European democracy over the next decade. The COVID-19 pandemic has already accelerated the shift to digital platforms in various aspects of our lives, and now it is expected to impact political participation as well.
The study, which involved interviews with government and industry representatives, predicts that the European market for online participation and deliberation will reach €300 million in the next five years. Additionally, the market for e-voting is projected to grow to €500 million. The respondents also see an opportunity for European providers of democracy technology to expand beyond Europe.
