Urban centres across the Midlands will not become ""ghost towns"" abandoned by residents for rural areas because of the pandemic, a panel of experts has stressed.
But the pundits on the West Midlands Residential Property forum have warned that developers need to radically rethink their offerings if they are to keep town and city centre living a viable, and must start planning longer term with local government and utility provider.
""The last nine months has made people reflect on what they want from their living space – but I don’t buy the premise that everyone living in urban centres now wants to move to rural Shropshire,"" said Anthony McCourt, chief executive of developer Court Collaboration. ""We’re not going to see our city centres become redundant.""
